I am a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC-funded project "This one there" at the University of Vienna. I hold an BA and MA in Classics and Ancient History from the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore, with exchange terms at FU Berlin and Princeton University, as well as a PhD in Byzantine studies from the University of Vienna. I held a junior fellowship at Dumbarton Oaks and a postdoctoral fellowship at ANAMED (Koç University, Istanbul).
My research interests center on the social, cultural and intellectual history of Late Antiquity and Byzantium. My first book project, derived from my 2024 dissertation, is on speechmaking and civic participation in Late Antique Antioch with a focus on Libanius, John Chrysostom and Severus of Antioch. I am also interested in Middle Byzantine rhetorical theory, which lies at the center of my work in "This one there", Late Byzantine ceremonial poetry and Syriac studies.
I also organized, together with John Kee, the first Byzantine Greek Summer School at the University of Vienna.
