Austrian Society of Modern Greek Studies (ÖGNS)

The Austrian Society of Modern Greek Studies (ÖGNS) was founded in 1988 in order to promote the academic research of Greece. The Society initiates and supports encompassing academic discussions of Modern Greek history, literature, and language and their respective aspects. The ÖGNS aims to make the work in these fields accessible to young scholars and to the interested public, while it also serves as an information platform for the society members. For this reason, interdisciplinary initiatives with other academic institutions in Austria and abroad are central to its area of activities. The ÖGNS is a founding member of the European umbrella organisation European Society of Modern Greek Studies and is a member of the Federation of Austrian Scientific Societies. It organises a regular lecture programme. Since 1987, the ÖGNS publishes the annual journal "Mitteilungen aus der Österreichischen Byzantinistik und Neogräzistik" together with the University Department, the ÖBG, and IMAFO (Austrian Academy of Sciences).

The annual membership fee is € 30,00 for members, € 15,00 for student members.

Regular lectures, coordination of academic research, Cooperation projects with the European Society of Modern Greek Studies.

The 7th European Congress of Modern Greek Studies is co-organized by the University of Vienna (Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies), the European Society of Modern Greek Studies (EENS), and the Austrian Society of Modern Greek Studies (ÖGNS).
